| My name is Carol Lowther. I was born in Wheatley Hill in 1946. My parents were Gladys (nee Evans) and William Fleetham. I have 1 older sister, Lucy, living in Bedford. After leaving school at 16 yrs old I worked in Hunters wallpaper stores in Wheatley Hill. I married Peter Lowther in 1968. We have 3 children Simon Peter, Julie and Paul Arthur and 3 wonderful grandchildren Jessica Alice, Abigail Louise and Luke Ramsey. When my children were smaller I worked as a cleaner in Durham, leaving in 1989 to work in Presto's in Wheatley Hill until the shop closed in 1997. I'm still working as a part-time shop assistant at the Weigh shop in Wheatley Hill. I joined the Mothers Club in 1980, serving on the committee for several years. In April 1997 I stood in as secretary for a while when our secretary, my friend Jennifer, was taken very ill. I became treasurer in August 1997 when we started fundraising for a play park. I enjoy everything about the Mothers Club and look forward to my weekly night out with "the Girls". The Mothers Club is a place to relax, learn and have a laugh. I hope I'm going to the Mothers Club on a Wednesday night for many years to come. | ||||||
