It saw as its first task the creating of a digitised database to record the existence of archival materials, their location and a computerised image.
In 1998 a group of people with an interest in the history of Stanley met with a view to promoting research and creating a picture of the way in which the community has developed. In May 1999 the present Stanley Local History Society was formed.
