Who we are

The County Durham History & Heritage Forum is a voluntary association of local history groups, heritage organisations and individuals interested in the history and heritage of County Durham.

Aims of the Forum

  • The Forum exists to promote and facilitate member organisations in celebrating, researching and raising awareness of the history and heritage of County Durham.
  • The Forum provides an avenue for communication and sharing of information between members and the wider community thus creating an opportunity for learning through sharing skills and knowledge.

Membership

Membership is open to local history societies, heritage groups, archives and libraries, schools and colleges and individual researchers.

We have members from the whole of the historic County of Durham covering the area from the Tyne to the Tees the North Pennines to the west and North Sea coast to the east.

As well as covering the local histories of areas throughout the historic county, members include those with specific interests ranging from railways and buses to spinning and weaving and war memorials to windmills.
