Hi, My name is Marion Langlands.I was born in Nelson Street, Thornley, Co Durham, England on 28th November 1943.My Farther Melvin Ramshaw was a coal miner and my mother Leah Ames Ramshaw (nee Hughes) had been munitions worker at Tuthill at Haswell before she was married.I have one brother, Alan who is 3 years younger than me.My first child hood memory is when he was a baby in the very bad winter of 1946/47. I remember the nappies being frozen in the bucket and my Dad having to dig a way out of the house because the snow was higher than the door.I attended Thornley Infants and Juniors School and then A.J.Dawson Grammar School. We lived at High Street in Thonley, near The Ritz Cinema. At the age of 14 I got a job as an ice-cream girl at the cinema, which I was able to fit around homework and get to see all the movies for free. It was there that I met Derek Langlands, my future husband, who bought lots of ice creams over the next couple of years. We started going out together and about the same time I started in full-time employment at the Ministry of Agriculture as a clerical officer. We married 2 years later when I was 18 and Derek was 22. We had 2 daughters and a son and lived in Thonley until1986, when we moved to Wheatley Hill. By 1989 my children had all left home and married and now I have children of their own. I have three granddaughters' two grandsons.Since we married, I have had several part-time jobs including, Catalogue representative market researcher, shop assistant and Bingo attendant. I found full time work as an administrative officer in Durham County Court and Crown Court, where I worked for 18 years.I took medical retirement several years ago but try to take up new interests whenever I can.I have completed several courses, the latest being in Community Health work, from which I gained an NVQ at Level 2. I joined Wheatley Hill Mothers Club 5 years ago, made new friends and enjoy our meetings because we always have a variety of guest speakers, e.c.t and projects to work on, thanks to Dorothy's inspiration and committee and members efforts.I am proud to be a member of the best Mother's Club in the area. | ||||
