My name is Liz Whiting and I am a member "The Searchers" with varying degrees of success. My family name is LEWINS and the menfolk were all miners working in Durham and moving to Stanley in the mid 18th century. It would be great to find someone of notable wealth or character, but all appear to be poor, hardworking folk. The Dixons and Lewins were also Methodists who can be difficult to trace.

My mothers family name is PATTERSON. William Patterson was born in Midmar, Aberdeen on 3.3.1816. He had moved to Shotley Bridge with his family before 1841 to work in the local paper mill. The family remain in the area today. Richard Dixon and Mary Cummings were born in Winlaton in1859 and 1855 respectively. Richard was a miner and after their marriage he worrked at collieries in the Sacriston and Ushaw Moor area.

Other family names include George Clennell who was living in Brough, Westmorland in 1844. .
. My maternal gt-grandfather Joseph Holmes was born at West Hall, Cumberland in 1839 and was a gardener in Gateshead by 1881.
