About : About our group

The group was initially set up with funding from Durham University in September 1998 with the idea of compiling a history of Blackhall. However, in November 1999 because of financial difficulties funding was withdrawn.

Shortly afterwards the members decided to form an official Local History Group because so much work had already been done with the project. A committee was elected and a formal constitution was agreed upon.

In January 2000 the members decided to publish a book of their research, and were greatly heartened when an application to the 'Turning the Tide' project, run by Durham County Council, proved successful.

The book was published in April 2001.
